Welcome to the homepage of the Invigorating Island South Office (IISO).

Background

The Invigorating Island South (IIS) initiative was announced in the 2020 Policy Address to develop the Southern District into a place full of vibrancy, vigour and velocity for people to work, live, explore new ideas and have fun. The Invigorating Island South Office (IISO) was set up in the Development Bureau in February 2021 to engage and collaborate with stakeholders, and co-ordinate and implement the following key projects under the initiative as stated in the Policy Address in 2020 and subsequent years:

formulate and refine the IIS Conceptual Master Plan (CMP) covering Wong Chuk Hang, Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau

enhance the cultural and leisure facilities in the vicinity of Aberdeen and Wong Chuk Hang, including Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter, Aberdeen Promenade and Ap Lei Chau Main Street

explore the expansion of Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter and the vessel berthing area as well as providing more landing facilities along the coast

expedite the redevelopment or conversion of old industrial buildings in Wong Chuk Hang through the Government’s policy of revitalising industrial buildings

explore room for redevelopment or consolidation of the existing “Government, Institution or Community” sites or facilities in the district

beautify public spaces and cityscape through “place making”, and enhancing pedestrian connectivity of the Wong Chuk Hang Business Area and the waterfront area nearby while improving the pedestrian environment along Shum Wan Road and Po Chong Wan

formulate proposals for the revitalisation of Staunton Creek Nullah into a river with environmental and landscape upgrading, integrating with adjoining public spaces to create a more pleasant walking environment

promote the sale of local fisheries produce at both wholesale and retail levels through revitalisation of the Aberdeen Wholesale Fish Market, as well as adding food and beverage elements to create a vibrant waterfront

IISO also joins hands with relevant government bureaux and departments on other key projects under the initiative including the future strategy for Ocean Park, exploring new marine tourism routes, and the development of a water sports complex at the rehabilitated Shek O Quarry site.
